Dr. Wagner is currently the Chief Medical Officer at Koneksa Health. He is also Editor-in-Chief, Clinical and Translational Science (Wiley) and Executive Committee member and co-chair of the FNIH Biomarkers Consortium. Dr. Wagner received his M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine and Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Postgraduate training included Internal Medicine Residency, as well as Molecular and Clinical Pharmacology Postdoctoral Fellowships at Stanford. Previously, Dr. Wagner’s professional positions included Chief Medical Officer at Cygnal Therapeutics (merged with Inzen Therapeutics to form Sonata Therapeutics), Venture Partner at Foresite Capital, Senior Vice President and Head of Translational Research and Early Clinical at Takeda Pharmaceuticals International Co., Senior Consultant to the Institute of Medicine, Vice President, Early Development Pipeline and Projects and Head, Global Project Management at Merck & Co., Inc., Vice President, Clinical Pharmacology, at Merck & Co., Inc. Acting Modeling and Simulation Integrator, Strategically Integrated M&S at Merck & Co., Inc.
Over 25 years of experience in biopharmaceuticals, drug discovery and development, clinical research, translational medicine, experimental medicine, clinical pharmacology, biomarkers, modeling and simulation, project leadership and management, portfolio management and prioritization, and scientific strategy. Experience includes large pharmaceutical companies, biotech, venture/investment, academic, and precompetitive collaboration.
He was also President, the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT), past chair of the PhRMA Clinical Pharmacology Technical Group, past chair of the adiponectin work group for the FNIH Biomarkers Consortium, past committee member of the National Academy of Medicine Forum on Qualification of Biomarkers and Surrogate Endpoints in Chronic Disease, past member of the National Academy of Medicine Forum on Drug Discovery, Development, and Translation, and past member of the National Academy of Medicine Forum National Cancer Policy Forum. He has authored over 260 peer-reviewed publications across a variety of therapeutic areas and disciplines.
