Maria E. Santaella, PhD, RN-BC, MSN, serves as the Vice President of Research Strategy at the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation. In her current position, she plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the organization's research strategy, providing strategic leadership and oversight for key initiatives, including the National Research Blueprint, the Research Grants Program, and the implementation of Community Voices in Research (CVR)—a dynamic, community-powered registry that captures the longitudinal experiences of individuals living with inheritable bleeding disorders and their non-affected relatives. Deeply committed to patient-centered research, she actively contributes to community-wide initiatives that elevate the patient voice in all aspects of care and decision-making. Before assuming this leadership position, she served as a hemophilia nurse coordinator at a leading hemophilia treatment center within a major academic institution. With nearly three decades of experience and dual board certifications in hemostasis and hematology/oncology nursing, she brings a wealth of expertise and a deep understanding of both clinical care and research to her current work.
