Senior Investigator and Lab Chief
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
Vijay Ramchandani, Ph.D., is Senior Clinical Investigator and Chief of the Human Psychopharmacology Laboratory in the intramural research program of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, one of the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, MD. He also serves as Training Director for the NIAAA intramural research program and as a Diversity Catalyst for the Scientific Workforce Diversity Office in the NIH Office of the Director.
Dr. Ramchandani obtained his undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Bombay University in India in 1990, and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA in 1996. From 1996 to 2002, he worked at the Alcohol Research Center at Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN, first as a Research Associate and then as an Assistant Scientist and Part-time Assistant Professor. Dr. Ramchandani joined NIAAA in 2003 as a Staff Scientist in the laboratory of the late Dan Hommer, and in 2007, he became Chief of the Unit on Human Physiology and Pharmacokinetics. He was appointed as a Tenure-Track Investigator in 2010 and was promoted with tenure to Senior Investigator in September 2019.
He has been a member of ASCPT for a number of years and has served on the award selection task force, scientific program committee, participated in mentoring activites, and served as Vice-Chair, Chair and now Past-Chair of the Mental Health and Addictions Community in the TPM network.
