Consultant Pharmacometrician
Equation AB
A highly experienced and enthusiastic pharmacometrician/biostatistician/drug developer. Has successfully conducted over 40 modelling and simulation projects working as a senior consultant (independent, Exprimo NV, Pharsight). Projects typically involve helping companies design better programs/trials and evaluating/optimising probability of success for in-house and/or in-licensing opportunities (by quantitatively integrating relevant data). Particularly highly skilled in dose-exposure-response design/analysis and model-based meta-analysis (MBMA) across multiple therapeutic areas (most recently in obesity, type 2 diabetes, urology). Expertise in optimal/adaptive design, simultaneous modelling of multiple endpoints, combination treatments and general Bayesian non-linear mixed effects modelling. Keen to improve how we develop drugs to enable personalised dosing.
Analyst of the most comprehensive and accurate comparison of type 2 diabetes drugs, with over 40 drugs (> 300 trials) accurately compared for glycemic control, weight changes and risk of hypoglycaemia (see www.CompareDiabetesDrugs.com).
Author of “Drug Development for Patients: Personalised Dosing For All” (see www.AlanMaloney.com). A (free) book explaining the scientific, ethical and commercial reasons why we need to move on from the crude, 1990’s style, “one-size-fits-all” dosing, and become truly patient centric in how we dose drugs.
Developer of “WeightTrekker”, a (free) app that helps patients to accurately track and predict their weight loss journey with Wegovy/Ozempic and Zepbound/Mounjaro (see www.WeightTrekker.com). By tracking GI side effects and Patient Reported Outcomes in addition to weight, the app can help patients quickly determine the drug dose regimen that works best for them (personalised dosing in action!).
What makes me mad? People just lazily “cutting and pasting” outdated development plans/protocols and then see adverse events as just numbers in tables (and not understanding the link between the two!). What makes me happy? Working with people who really want to do the best for both their company and patients, and are willing to embrace new, better approaches to do so.
