Craig W. Hendrix, MD, DABCP, FACCP, is Professor Emeritus and Former Wellcome Professor and Director, Division of Clinical Pharmacology, at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He trained in infectious diseases and clinical pharmacology at Hopkins before 8 years as an Air Force physician and 30 years on the medical faculty at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Hendrix’s primary research focus is clinical pharmacology of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis. He has led over 100 early-phase clinical studies as principal investigator in the Air Force and at Johns Hopkins as well as serving as principal pharmacologist for more than 80 NIH-funded HIV/AIDS network advanced clinical trials. He has also served on a National Academy of Medicine Advisory Panel, the CDC Board of Scientific Counselors, and several FDA Advisory Committees. Within the community of clinical pharmacology, he has served on the Board of ASCPT, Regent of ACCP, and is currently the Chairman of the American Board of Clinical Pharmacology. He notes the most important contributions of his career as mentoring dozens of clinical pharmacology and infectious diseases fellows and junior faculty.
