PhD Student
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy
Trey Halsey, PharmD, is a PhD student at Virginia Commonwealth University in Dr. Mary Peace McRae’s lab, where he studies the intersection of HIV and opioids. His research focuses on understanding how opioid use impacts neuroinflammation and contributes to neurocognitive dysfunction in people with HIV. He is particularly interested in how HIV infection influences opioid consumption and dependence, including how EcoHIV may alter opioid preference in a behavioral context. Passionate about translational science, Trey aims to advance therapeutic strategies for individuals with HIV and opioid use disorder. Through his work, he seeks to bridge the gap between preclinical findings and clinical applications, ultimately improving treatment outcomes for vulnerable populations. At ASCPT, he looks forward to meeting experts in pharmacology, neuroscience, and personalized medicine to further his research and professional development.
