Dr. Limdi is a clinical pharmacist and chronic disease epidemiologist with 20 years of experience in clinical pharmacy, epidemiology, pharmacogenomics research and implementation of genomics in clinical practice. As the Director, Program for Translational Pharmacogenomics and Associate Director Hugh Kaul Personalized Medicine Institute, she oversees the discovery and clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics across the UAB health system. In both my research and implementation efforts, her work aims to:
1. Discover clinical, genetic variants and environmental factors influencing drug response and disease risk
2. Synthesize evidence to facilitate the implementation of genotype-guided drug therapy and develop polygenic risk assessments for chronic diseases
3. Implement genotype guided therapy and genomic risk assessments in clinical care to improve patient and population outcomes
She has collaborated extensively with national/ international consortia including Pharmacogenomics Research Network (PGRN), Pharmacogenomics Knowledge Base (PharmGKB), the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Committee (CPIC), the Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC), and Standardizing Laboratory Practices in Pharmacogenomics (STRIPE). She is leading efforts to integrate genomic screening and pharmacogenetics for Alabamians through the Alabama Genomic health Initiative (AGHI), integrating pharmacogenetics into clinical care and establishing effective implementation frameworks through the Implementation of Genomics In pracTicE (IGNITE). As a leader in the Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) consortium, she co-led the development of polygenic risk scores for chronic kidney disease and diabetes and am leading the recruitment and return of genomic risk scores for African Americans.
As a mentor, she brings to bear, a broad set of experiences and expertise in pharmacogenomics, clinical pharmacy, pharmacology, genomics, and clinical research methods, epidemiology and biostatistics. She serves as a mentor through several institutional training grants and leads the UAB CTSA training academy.
