Julie A. Johnson, Pharm.D. is the Dr. Samuel T and Lois Felts Mercer Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at The Ohio State University’s Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy. She is the Director of OSU’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute, PI of OSU’s NIH CTSA award, Associate Dean for Research (Medicine) and Associate Vice President for Research at OSU. Prior to joining Ohio State, she spent over 25 years at the University of Florida, where she was Distinguished Professor of Pharmacy and Medicine and the first female dean of UF’s College of Pharmacy. She received her B.S. from The Ohio State University and her Pharm.D. from the University of Texas at Austin/UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in cardiovascular clinical pharmacology at Ohio State.
Dr. Johnson’s research focuses on cardiovascular pharmacogenomics, and documentation of clinical outcomes with implementation of precision medicine approaches into clinical practice. She is an internationally recognized leader in clinical pharmacology, pharmacogenomics and genomic medicine, with over 350 peer reviewed original publications and over $55M in research funding as principal investigator. From 2015-2018 she was a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher, an accomplishment of about 1 in 1000 scientists globally.
Dr. Johnson has had numerous service roles, including with the NIH, FDA, American Heart Association (AHA) and American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT), for which she was President in 2016-2017, along with numerous other leadership roles with ASCPT.
Dr. Johnson has received numerous awards and honors, including election to the National Academy of Medicine and election as fellow of four societies, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the AHA. She’s a previous recipient of ASCPT’s Leon Goldberg Young Investigator, Rawls Palmer Progress in Medicine and Mentor Awards, and the ASCPT/FDA William B. Abrams Lectureship Award.
