Dr. Cara McDermott, PharmD, PhD, MSc is an Assistant Professor at Duke University School of Medicine with appointments in the Division of Geriatrics and the Department of Population Health Sciences. She is also a Senior Fellow in the Duke Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development and a Research Scholar in the Durham VA Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center. She earned her PharmD, PhD, and MSc from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy, receiving certificates of study in Geriatric Pharmacy and Comparative Effectiveness Research. She then completed a T32 palliative care research fellowship and was a K12 fellow in the Implementation Science Training Program, both at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She currently studies medication and symptom management for multimorbid older adults with serious illness, with a focus on adapting and implementing novel interventions to mitigate drug-drug interactions and medication-associated adverse events. Dr. McDermott's research is funded by the NIH and the VA. She is the author of over 50 publications and has presented her research at multiple national meetings.
